The Ultimate Fight Night 41 Results

June 2, 2014

The UFC’s first of two events Saturday took place in Berlin Germany with Gegard Mousasi and Mark Munoz squaring off in the main event of a very Euro heavy card.

Gegard Mousasi needed an impressive showing to tell the world he belongs in the upper echelon of the best MMA promotion in the world and he got it Saturday night. Munoz is no slouch, despite dropping two of his last three fights coming into UFN 41, Munoz has always had solid wrestling and when he gets you down he can make it a long night for most opponents. On this night though, Munoz couldn’t keep Mousasi down. Munoz went for the legs but Mousasi was able to roll and land on top of the Filipino Wrecking Machine, Gegard dropped some elbows before taking Munoz’s back and then sunk in the rear naked choke for a quick win at just 3:07 of the first round.  Mousasi wanted to make a statement; he made it.

In the co-main event, Francis Carmont and C.B. Dollaway fought. The fight went the distance with both fighters taking a beating but it was Dollaway earning the unanimous decision taking all but one round on the judges score cards, 30-27,30-27 and 29-8.

Sean Strickland and Luke Barnatt fought an unpopular fight. The crowd wasn’t into this one at all but neither were the fighters. Barnatt was patient, too patient with Strickland. Strickland wasn’t engaging but apparently did enough to convince two of the three judges he won. Those in attendance didn’t agree and lustily booed the decision. Strickland takes it 30-27, 29-28 on two judges cards, the other has it 29-28 for Barnatt.

In the first televised fight on the card, Niklas Backstrom defeated Tom Niinimaki with a bulldog choke. The bulldog choke isn’t generally known as a finishing move but Backstrom sunk it in hard enough that Niinimaki had no choice but to tap at 4:14 of the first round.
