The UFC’s biggest weekend of the year ended with all the joy that comes with finding out Santa Claus isn’t real. BJ Penn returned to the cage for another fight against the man who ended his lightweight dominance, Frankie Edgar and two new Ultimate Fighters were crowned in quick fashion.
Frankie Edgar defeats BJ Penn
Frankie Edgar looked good, very good. Edgar treated his third fight with BJ Penn like target practice. He controlled the fight from beginning until it was mercifully stopped with a 3rd round TKO. When this fight was announced, we weren’t sure if it was Penn asking for the fight or if it was the UFC looking to squeeze the last bit of star power out of the former champ to garner ratings. Penn was adamant it was his decision to come out of semi retirement to take this fight but it’s clear this was his last fight in the octagon as Penn announced he was done at the end of the fight. Bloody and broken is not how we want to remember one of the true legends of the sport but there it is.

Corey Anderson defeats Matt Van Buren
Both Van Buren and Anderson come out swinging but Anderson was able to connect first and hard. He stunned Van Buren with heavy rights and then pounced on his opponent, resisting clinches and takedown attempts Anderson finished the job at just 1:01 of the first to become the season 19 light heavyweight winner of the Ultimate Fighter. Anderson, despite his inexperience has show great potential in the cage, we look forward to seeing what he can do against next level opponents.

Eddie Gordon defeats Dhiego Lima
Eddie Gordon didn’t give Dhiego Lima a chance to breathe in their Ultimate Fighter middleweight finale bout. Gordon pressured Lima with heavy overhand rights and when one connected it put Lima in trouble. Lima tried to hold on to Gordon but Gordon pelted his opponent with overhands and uppercuts until Lima finally collapsed. A couple of the punches appeared to hit the back of Lima’s head but referee Yves Lavigne issued no warnings, not that there was much time to do so as the fight was stopped at 1:11 of the very first round. Gordon is your season 19 Middleweight Ultimate Fighter.
