UFC 174 Odds – Ryan Jimmo vs. Ovince St. Preux

June 12, 2014

This Saturday from the Rogers Centre in Vancouver British Columbia UFC 174 starts their pay-per-view portion of the card with an up and coming Canadian as Ryan Jimmo takes on Ovince St. Preux in a light heavyweight tilt.

The UFC Oddsmakers don’t like the Canadian’s chances as he’s currently a +120 underdog against the St. Preux. St. Preux is listed as a -150 favorite; bettors will need to risk $150 for every $100 they want to win.

UFC Betting Odds
Ryan Jimmo +120
Ovince St. Preux -150

St. Preux is undefeated so far in 3 UFC fights. He went 6-1 during his time in Strikeforce. He’s looked impressive in his last couple of fights as his opponents never made it out of the first round; he KO’d Cody Donovan and choked out Nikita Krylov before the first buzzer sounded.

St. Preux has solid kickboxing and he’ll look to push the pace against the entertaining Canadian. Jimmo has only lost three times in his career but two come via the knockout.

Jimmo isn’t afraid to stand and bang with his opponents, he owns a black belt in karate. He’ll need to emphasize his kicks to slow down the more athletic St. Preux. He has fires big powerful shots and he’s always one shot away from finishing a fight as we saw in his 7 second KO of Anthony Perosh and first round KO in his last fight against Sean O’Connell.

St. Preux has beaten most the fighters Strikeforce and the UFC have put in front of him except for Gegard Mousasi. Mousasi is the most skilled fighter he’s faced and it didn’t go his way. Jimmo is not Mousasi but is he better than St. Preux’s other opponents.

I expect this fight to be a sleeper for fight of the night, both fighters are big strong guys who like to throw hands but if St. Preux’s camp decided to put Jimmo on his back as their best chance to win, it might turn into a standup wrestling match against the cage as Jimmo has blocked 85% of his takedowns.
