The UFC’s biggest weekend of the year features some of the best fights we’ve seen in a while from the promotion. UFC 175 comes to us live from Las Vegas Saturday night and features two world title fights. Middleweight champion Chris Weidman takes on Lyoto Machida and women’s champion Rhonda Rousey defends against Alexis Davis.
The second fight on the card features Ultimate Fighter alumni Uriah Hall and Thiago Santos fighting in a middleweight tilt. Hall stared on season 17 of TUF while Santos competed in The Ultimate Fighter Brazil.
UFC 175 Odds
Thiago Santos +300
Uriah Hall -400
Uriah Hall exploded on the scene on the Ultimate Fighter with 4 wins while in the house including knockouts of Bubba McDaniel, Dylan Andrews and Adam Cella. His KO of Cella was especially vicious as it came on a spinning hook kick that left Cella stiff. In the finale, he was ineffective against Kelvin Gastelum losing his opportunity to be the Ultimate Fighter.
In Hall’s next fight, he lost a split decision to John Howard. In his two fights in the octagon in front of big crowds, Hall failed to show the flash and potential that people expected after his series of highlight reel performances on the show. He bounced back against Chris Leben in his next fight, Leben’s corner stopped the fight before the beginning of the second round.
The UFC odds makers have Hall as a -400 favorite. UFC bettors will need to risk $400 for every $100 they want to win betting on Hall. If bettors back Santos, UFC bookies will pay $300 for every $100 risked.
Hall’s slow start in the UFC could be nerves or it could be that he doesn’t have the killer instinct needed to compete at the highest level. Hall is sublimely skilled and his talent is never in doubt. If he gets his head in the game, he could challenge for a UFC title in a couple of years but he needs to show the same flash he showed on TUF before we can look that far into the future.
