UFC 175 Odds – Marcus Brimage vs. Russell Doane

July 2, 2014

Russell DoaneIt’s one of the biggest UFC events of the year. The Independence Day long weekend is when the UFC brings out their biggest fights and this year they’re headlining the event with a middleweight title fight between champion Chris Wiedman and Lyoto Machida. But the pay-per-view portion of the card kicks off with a bantamweight fight between Marcus Brimage and Russell Doane.

The UFC Odds makers have this fight between Doane and Brimage as a pick’em. UFC bettors will only need to lay down the juice over an above what they want to win by picking either of these fighters.

UFC 175 Odds
Marcus Brimage -115
Russell Doane -115

Marcus Brimage is dropping down to bantamweight for this fight after suffering 67-second TKO loss to Connor McGregor in his last outing. Until the beating at the hands of McGregor, Brimage had a run of 4 straight wins, including 3 straight UFC wins at featherweight.

A lot of fighters like to fight above their weight and if they are very skilled they can get away with it, example Frankie Edgar, but when the competition starts to get intense, it’s becomes to much to bear. Perhaps this is what’s happened to Brimage, he was winning decisions at featherweight but when he faced the highly touted McGregor, he realized he’d be better off cutting the extra few pounds to face fighters his size.

Russell Doane is making his second appearance in the octagon when he faces Brimage. He won his promotional debut Leandro Issa back in January on a UFC Fight Night card. One thing we can say about Doane is he’s a finisher; of his 16 fights, only 3 have gone to a decision, 2 wins and a loss. He’s split his finishes evenly with 6 KO victories and 5 submission victories.

This fight is too close to call but considering Doane’s affinity for the finish, you can expect him to go after Brimage from the opening bell. If Brimage isn’t careful, he could be in for another early night.
