June 7 in Albuquerque New Mexico, the UFC will hold UFC Fight Night 42 pitting former lightweight champion Benson Henderson against Russian Combat Sambo expert Rustam Khabilov in the main event.
In the Co-main event pits a couple of Ultimate Fighter reality show winners against each other as the original TUF winner Diego Sanchez takes on season 9 winner Ross Pearson in a middleweight tilt.
The UFC odds makers have the Pearson as a -185 favorite, so bettors will need to risk $195 for every $100 they want to profit on the British slugger. Any bettor backing the underdog Sanchez will take home $150 for every $100 risked if his victorious.
UFC Fight Night 42 Odds
Diego Sanchez +150
Ross Pearson -185
This has bout has fight of the night written all over it. Both Pearson and Sanchez love to throw and aren’t afraid to take damage. Sanchez always brings it to the cage even if he’s on the losing end as he has been in three of his last four bouts. The Dream Sanchez has earned the fight of the night award 7 times and his wars with Clay Guida, Gilbert Melendez and Karo Parisyan have won fights of the year from various publications.
Pearson to his credit has a couple fight of the night awards under his belt but while he’s open to a war in the ring, he’s far more conservative compared to Sanchez (aren’t we all).
One thing to look for in this fight is the size difference, Pearson flirted with featherweight for a couple of bout and Sanchez is a big lightweight after fighting much of his career at welterweight and winning TUF as a middleweight. Also, with the fight taking place in the high-altitude of Albuquerque, the thinner air might be an advantage for Sanchez who makes New Mexico his training home.
If you can bet on fight of the night, this is likely your best shot. After two straight losses, Sanchez needs a win. It’s doubtful Dana White would toss Sanchez from the UFC after all that he’s given the organization; another loss will mean a lack of big money fights for the Dream. He might be a live dog in this fight.
