. Oliveira comes into this fight as a -200 favorite over Hatsu. UFC bettors will need to put down $200 for every $100 they want to win with Oliveira, they’ll get $160 for every $100 bet on Hatsu.
UFC Fight Night Odds
Hatsu Hioki +160
Charles Oliveira -200
Charles Oliveira was climbing the UFC featherweight contender rankings before two straight losses to Cub Swanson and Frankie Edgar sent him hurdling back down the ladder. It’s not all bad for Oliveira, he’s only 24 and the step up in competition against Edgar and Swanson were a little much too soon. Edgar is a former UFC champion and Swanson is close to a title fight himself. He bounced back with a performance of the night victory over Andy Ogle.
It was Ogle’s third straight loss so it’s baby steps once again for Oliveira. He should get a solid but not substantial test against Hatsu. Hatsu is a former champion albeit in another promotion but he can put it together to give Oliveira a solid challenge.
Hatsu is coming off a decision victory over veteran Ivan Menjivar but it was also Menjivar’s 3rd straight loss.
Hatsu is a solid grappler but it’s unlikely he can keep up with the Brazilian Black belt on the ground as Oliveira has picked up 16 finishes in his 17 wins in MMA; with most coming via submission.
Don’t let the -200 scare you away from Charles Oliveira, he has the talent to be champion one day and as we’ll see at UFC Fight Night 43, he’ll use Hatsu Hioki as a stepping stone on his way back up the ladder.
