This Saturday the UFC presents two Fight Night cards, the first coming from New Zealand and the second from San Antonio Texas. In Texas the Ultimate Fighter Season 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum takes on Nicholas Musoke in a welterweight bout.
Gastelum was the youngest ever winner of the Ultimate Fighter and the UFC odds makers believe he has a big edge over the Swedish born Musoke. Gastelum is a -400 favorite; his backers will need to risk $400 for every $100 they want to win. On the backside, any Musoke backers will win $300 for every $100 they put down on their fighter.
UFC Fight Night Odds
Nicholas Musoke +300
Kelvin Gastelum -400
Gastelum has beaten the odds so far coming up, not a lot was expected from the 22yo California native. He was a big underdog going into the Ultimate Fighter show but he kept winning and earned a place in the finals against Uriah Hall. Hall had cruised to the finals and was best remembered for his devastating spin kick KO of Adam Cella. In their TUF final, Gastelum ignored the hype and rendered Hall and his strikes ineffective earning the title of Ultimate Fighter via split decision.
Despite the win, he dropped to welterweight and earned a tap-out victory over Brian Melancon and a tough split decision win over veteran wrestler Rick Story.
Those wins showed the potential the young fighter has in the UFC but his -400 odds seem a little steep considering Musoke is 12-2, unbeaten in his last 8 and has two straight UFC victories over solid veterans Viscardi Andrade and Alessio Sakara.
Another plus for Nicholas Musoke is that he trains with current number one contender at light heavyweight Alexander Gustafsson in Stockholm. Gastelum might be rightfully listed as the favorite in this fight but as a -400 favorite, that might be a lot of cake to lay on the line against Nicholas Musoke.
