The UFC finishes up their marathon Saturday with UFC Fight Night 44 live from San Antonio Texas, the main event features Cub Swanson taking on Jeremy Stephens but well down the card the event features five preliminary fights. Let’s have a look.
Preliminary card (Fox Sports 1)
Colton Smith +175
Carlos Diego Ferreira -225
The last fight before the main card at UFC Fight Night 44 features former Ultimate Fighter 16 winner Colton Smith taking on hot prospect Carlos Diego Ferreira. Ferreira is a perfect 9-0 and looks to continue that perfect run against Smith. He’s just 3-3 since winning TUF, he needs this win but likely won’t get it.
Johnny Bedford -250
Cody Gibson +195
Bedford has looked good so far in the UFC. He’s KO’d Louis Gaudinot and Marcos Vinicus and then had a no contest with Bryan Caraway after the two bumped heads. Gibson looked OK in a loss to Aljamain Sterling but comparing the two it’s easy to see why Bedford is the clear favorite here. I don’t see any surprises.
Marcelo Guimarães +150
Andy Enz -185
Enz is a warrior, he’s got excellent standup but if it goes to the ground, things could get ugly against the Brazilian Marcelo Guimarães. I don’t trust Enz’s take down defense so look for Guimarães to score an upset here.
Ray Borg -450
Shane Howell +325
Ray Borg looks to be in good shape in this flyweight bout. Shane Howell is a late replacement in this fight. Howell has won 6 straight but hasn’t fought since 2012. It will take a miracle for him to upset Borg on such late notice.
Preliminary card (UFC Fight Pass)
Oleksiy Oliynyk -150
Anthony Hamilton +120
Oleksiy Oliynyk is known as the Boa Constrictor despite his advanced age of 37, he’s put up a couple nice wins albeit against other aged fighters in Mirko Cro-Cop and Jeff Monson but our he’s fought lesser known names for most of the later part of his career. Anthony Hamilton is a monster, standing 6’5 and weighing 265lbs. Hamilton, if he can keep this fight standing, should be able to pound Oliynyk’s lights out in this fight.
