On Saturday May 10th, the UFC is in Cincinnati Ohio for UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva. In the first Fox Sports 1 televised bout, the undefeated Louis “Da Last Samurai” Smolka (7-0, 1-0 UFC) takes on Chris “Kamikaze” Cariaso (16-5, 6-3 UFC) in the flyweight division.
UFC Fight Night Odds
Chris Cariaso Even
Louis Smolka -130
After defeating Alptekin Ozkilic in his UFC debut, Louis Smolka is facing a fighter in the top ten, who should test his mettle and go a long way in determining if he belongs in cage with the best in the world. Smolka is undefeated with a perfect 7-0 record, he has yet to face someone as experienced as Cariaso.
Cariaso had some success in the UFC Bantamweight division, winning 3 of 4 with his only divisional loss coming to Bantamweight Champion Renan Barao. The most to flyweight got off to a rough start with Cariaso dropping his first two fights before rebounding to win his next two.
These two fighters come into the cage with distinctly different styles in the ring. Cariaso isn’t a finisher and he’ll look to control the fight with effective striking but the lack of pop in his punches means if the fight is to go his way, we’ll be waiting for a judges decision. Cariaso only has three finishes in his 16 wins but has been finished in three of his five losses.
Smolka is young and aggressive; he’ll look to swarm his opponent to take the fight to the ground where he’ll want to finish rather than stand and strike with the more experienced Cariaso. In Smolka’s seven wins, he’s only left in the judges hands once as he’s submitted four opponents and KO’d the other two.
Currently the UFC oddsmakers are favoring the younger Louis Smolka over the more experienced Chris Cariaso, as bettors will need to risk $130 to earn a return of $100. A bet on the underdog Cariaso will pay bettors $100 for every $100 risked.
