On May 31 in Berlin Germany, the UFC will hold the first of two cards on two different continents. UFC Fight Night 41: Munoz vs. Mousasi features a full slate fights and then when the night closes in Germany, the UFC does it all over again with The Ultimate Fight Brazil 3 finale in Sao Paulo Brazil.
On the televised card, Luke “Bigslow” Barnatt and Sean “Tarzan” Strickland are set to get it on in a battle of undefeated middleweights. Barnett is coming into this fight with an overall record of 8-0 and 3-0 in the UFC. Strickland is undefeated in 14 fights and he’s won his only UFC appearance.
The UFC oddsmakers have the 8-0 Barnatt has the -230 favorite; UFC bettors will need to risk $230 for every $100 they want to win on Barnett. The bookies are paying $180 for every $100 bettors are willing to risk on the underdog Strickland.
• Sean Strickland = +200
• Luke Barnett = -230
Barnatt is definitely the bigger name of these two fighters as he first entered the public consciousness by being Chael Sonnen’s first pick in the Ultimate Fighter: Jones vs. Sonnen series. That extra publicity could be the reason the odds are titled in his favor.
Despite Barnatt having more fights and more UFC experience, Strickland has been quietly slugging it out in England’s King of the Cage Promotion. As mentioned, he’s 14-0 and 11 of his fights haven’t made it to the judges cards. He’ll face arguably tougher competition in Barnatt but in his promotional debut, Strickland took a fight against UFC TUF alum Bubba McDaniel and made it a short night by tapping McDaniel before the first bell.
Barnatt is a towering figure; standing 6’6, he’ll look to use his reach to keep the much shorter Strickland at bay. If he can force Strickland to fight at a distance than the -230 odds are about right but if Strickland can find a way inside and make this fight dirty, we will hear a lot more about the man they call Tarzan.
