Roach: Floyd is scared, Bradley better be ready

March 14, 2012

Freddie Roach believes that Floyd Mayweather, Jr. should stop being a hypocrite and practice what he preaches. He blames Mayweather’s constant excuses as to why the much-anticipated Mayweather – Pacquiao match hasn’t happened yet.

In an interview with John McCormick of popular website Boxing Talk, renowned trainer Freddie Roach also promises a more focused Manny Pacquiao come June 9.

Roach boldly proclaimed that “Floyd doesn’t want to fight. I get tired of people saying why won’t Manny fight him? It’s not like that. Manny would sign the contract to fight him today.”

He adds, “He preaches Olympic Style Drug Testing but he isn’t being tested when he isn’t in training camp. Nobody is testing him while he isn’t training because he is off the radar. He needs to practice all of that stuff he preaches”

Hopefully all the posturing comes to an end and both the Mayweather and Pacquiao camps sign up and fight each other. We really don’t care if the fight happens in a vacant parking lot or under the Brooklyn Bridge — we just want to see the top pound for pound guys fight.

We agree with Roach when he says that Pacquiao needs to knockout Timothy Bradley on June 9 to silence the critics. He’ll have to look spectacular to continue the hype of a possible (yes, it’s still possible) Pacquiao – Mayweather showdown in the future. After looking vulnerable in his last fight against Juan Manuel Marquez, Pacquiao has a lot to prove. A dominant performance will also give him pull in negotiations with Mayweather.
