Knockouts: Retired NFL pro learns the hard way

March 26, 2012

Johnnie Morton caught 624 passes for 8, 719 yards during his eight-year career with the Detroit Lions. He is second all-time on Detroit’s list in receptions and receiving yards. Those are some good numbers for a receiver. Too bad his football success didn’t translate into a respectable MMA career.

Morton fought one MMA fight and it was a dose of cold reality. Just because you’re a proven athlete doesn’t mean you’re also a natural-born fighter.

The former 21st draft pick learned this the hard way.

While “training” for this fight, Morton didn’t spar. He believed getting banged around by stronger, bigger defensive backs proved he had a chin tough enough to withstand punches to the face.

After the fight he tested positive for ‘roids. His testosterone level was 84 times greater than the average dude. He must’ve taken advice from Chael Sonnen and Cris Cyborg before the fight.

PS: Someone please send this video to Shaq who has been begging Dana White for a fight in the UFC.
